Alvinston survives Mooretown comeback, wins 4-3

The Alvinston Flyers survived a determined comeback attempt by the Mooretown Flags on the way to a 4-3 win.

Alvinston took a 4-1 lead during the third period, only to have Mooretown storm back on a Sam Jasmin goal 19:09 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Flyers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Mooretown power plays. Alvinston forced the Flags goalie Brandon Johnson to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

The Flyers were led by Karsten Berg, who registered two goals. Berg scored the first of his two goals short handed at 17:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Alvinston. Alvinston found itself down a man on Andrew Morgan's interference. Berg's next tally short handed made the score 2-1 Alvinston with 14:07 left in the second period. The Flyers had gained a power play chance when Colton Osborne was whistled for interference. Josh Moore picked up the assist. Others who scored for Alvinston included Hunter Bryce and Jeremy VanDeven, who scored one goal each. More assists for Alvinston came via Joe Archer, Zach VanEyk, and Carter Campbell, who each chipped in one.

Mooretown could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Flags were helped by Ryan Lyle, who finished with two goals and one assist. Lyle scored the first of his two goals at 3:45 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Brett Thompson provided the assist. Lyle's next tally made the score 4-2 Alvinston with 1:01 left in the third period. Jasmin assisted on the tally. Mooretown also got points from Jasmin, who also racked up one goal and two assists.

Brett Avery recorded 27 saves for Alvinston. The Flyers incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Mooretown's Johnson stopped 30 shots out of the 34 that he faced.
