Wallaceburg uses shootout to best Wheatley, 4-3 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Wallaceburg Lakers defeated the Wheatley Sharks in a shootout 4-3 (3-2 SO).

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Wheatley's shootout goals were scored by Lucas Raffoul and Scott Florence. Wallaceburg also got shootout goals from Matt Clark and Cory Lucier.

The Lakers saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Wallaceburg made the score 3-1 on a goal by Lucais Meyskens at 11:15 in the third period. The Sharks evened things up at 3-3 on a goal by Florence at 19:50 in the third period.

The Lakers' penalty kill excelled, as Wallaceburg gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

The Lakers stifled Wheatley's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Wallaceburg was helped by Brock Daugherty, who had one goal. Daugherty scored 16:07 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Wallaceburg. Wallaceburg additionally got points from Meyskens, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Mike Kindrachuk also scored for Wallaceburg. More assists for Wallaceburg came via Trevor Waller, Clark, and Jacob Theoret, who contributed one each.

The Sharks' offense rang up 32 shots on the Lakers' net.

Wheatley was led by Michael Travis, who registered one goal and one assist. Travis scored 19:28 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Wallaceburg. Brian Johnson picked up the assist. Wheatley also got points from Shawn Hope, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Wheatley received assists from Brendon Anger, Antonio Ciampa, and Bailey Loveless, who each chipped in one.

Joel Sowinski made 29 saves for Wallaceburg on 32 shots. The Lakers totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Wallaceburg ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kindrachuk was ejected from the game. Adam Leboeuf recorded 24 saves for the Sharks. Wheatley incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
