Sobocan's goals lift Amherstburg to 8-5 victory over Alvinston

Mark Sobocan was all over the ice for the Amherstburg Admirals, as he tallied two goals in Amherstburg's 8-5 win over the Alvinston Flyers.

Sobocan scored at 9:03 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Alvinston and again while 11:15 into the second to make the score 3-3.

The Admirals' offense rang up 35 shots on Alvinston's net. Amherstburg bested its season scoring average. This season, the Admirals average 4.0 goals per contest. Amherstburg could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game. The Admirals got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Amherstburg also got points from James Brooks, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Mark Gangnon, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Amherstburg also had goals scored by Cole Martyniuk, who had two and Brett Beattie and Ryan Holzel, who each put in one. In addition, Amherstburg received assists from Cody Leeming, Dan Matoski, Luke Gangnon, Chad Copeland, and Colin Leardi, who contributed one each.

The Flyers kept Amherstburg's goalie busy throughout the game, and Arren Romeril made 26 saves on 31 shots. Alvinston found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Flyers average 2.9 goals per game.

Alvinston was helped by Chad Rainsberry, who had one goal and one assist. Rainsberry scored on the power play 7:29 into the third period to make the score 6-5 Amherstburg. The Flyers had gotten the advantage when the Admirals' Brett Banwell was sent off for tripping. Kirklin Dorman assisted on the tally. Alvinston additionally got points from Dorman, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Alvinston included Joe Archer, Karsten Berg, and Jordan Hayes, who scored one goal each. More assists for Alvinston came via Eric Marsh and Brett Duncan, who each chipped in one.

Amherstburg registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Brett Avery made 27 saves for Alvinston on 34 shots. The Flyers totaled 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors and went 4-for-10 on the power play. For Alvinston, Clint Rose and Blake Hayes were ejected from the contest.
