Amherstburg squeaks by Wheatley, 3-2

The Amherstburg Admirals and the Wheatley Sharks were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Amherstburg made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

The Admirals gained the winning advantage on a goal by Chad Copeland 2:39 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Amherstburg's penalty kill excelled, as the Admirals gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

In the losing effort, Wheatley was led by Jimmy Ciacelli, who grabbed two goals. Ciacelli scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 4:03 into the second period to make the score 1-1. A hooking penalty on Brett Beattie had put the Sharks on the power play. Brendon Anger provided the assist. Ciacelli's next tally on the power play made the score 2-2 with 1:11 left in the second period. Frankie Ciacelli picked up the assist.

Amherstburg forced Wheatley goalie Adam Leboeuf to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Amherstburg also got points from Mark Sobocan, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Dan Matoski, who also tallied one goal and one assist.

The Sharks kept the Admirals' goalie busy throughout the game, and Cheech Donato made 29 saves on 31 shots.

Amherstburg incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Leboeuf rejected 32 shots on goal for Wheatley. The Sharks incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
