Huge game by Derynck boosts Blenheim over Alvinston, 8-2

Behind a great game by Blair Derynck, who had two goals and two assists, the Blenheim Blades defeated the Alvinston Flyers, 8-2.

Derynck scored at 4:19 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Blenheim and again while on the power play 11:59 into the third to make the score 4-2 Blenheim.

Blenheim pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 10 penalty minutes.

The Blades excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Blenheim's offense rang up 37 shots on Alvinston's net. The Blades found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Blenheim has scored at the pace of 3.0 goals per game during the current campaign.

Blenheim additionally got points from Austin Bentley, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Teddy McGeen, who also finished with one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Zack Horvath also scored for Blenheim. In addition, Blenheim received assists from Corbin Hagerman, who had three, Dylan Muzzatti, Kellen Kaniecki, and Derek Muzzatti, who each chipped in one, and Ben Pataki and Dylan Smith, who contributed two each.

The Flyers were helped by Eric Marsh, who had one goal. Marsh scored 8:08 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Alvinston. Kyle Adams picked up the assist. Alvinston also got a goal from Joe Archer as well. More assists for Alvinston came via Karsten Berg, who had one.

The Blades took out Eric Stewardson after he had made 12 saves and installed Klinton Kenney in goal, where he finished with 12 saves and the win. Blenheim registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. Brett Avery made 29 saves for Alvinston on 36 shots. The Flyers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
