Essex rips Blenheim, 4-0

The Blenheim Blades had trouble finding ways to stop the Essex 73s, which beat Blades, 4-0.

Essex was led by Daniel Slipchuk, who had one goal. Slipchuk scored 18:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Essex. Daniel McIntyre picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:51 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The 73s racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Essex surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. The 73s stifled Blenheim's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Essex forced the Blades goalie Klinton Kenney to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Essex also got points from Tyler Scott, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Essex also had goals scored by Jordan Ryan and Anthony Cristofaro, who each put in one. In addition, Essex received assists from William Stadder and Matthew Hebert, who each chipped in one.

Blenheim could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Blades put an average of 3.0 pucks into the net per game.

Noah Hedrick recorded 22 saves for the 73s. Essex registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. The 73s ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Michael Vieira was ejected from the game. Blenheim's Kenney stopped 32 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Blades totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-4 on the power play. For Blenheim, Corbin Hagerman was ejected from the game.
