Essex blows out Wheatley, 8-1Wheatley Area Arena Sat, Sep 20, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wheatley Sharks had trouble finding ways to stop the Essex 73s, which beat Sharks, 8-1. Essex got the win behind a great game by Tyler Turner, who had two goals and one assist. Turner scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 11:37 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Essex. The 73s had gained a power play chance when Scott Florence was whistled for slashing. Matthew Rosati assisted on the tally. Turner's next tally on the power play made the score 7-1 Essex with 1:48 left in the third period. Essex had taken the advantage when Wheatley's Peter Mosher got sent off for checking from behind. Daniel Slipchuk picked up the assist. The 73s were led by goalie Colin Lauzon, who finished with 28 saves while allowing one goal. Lauzon managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.15 prior to the game. Essex excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The 73s kept the Sharks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Conner MacKinnon made 29 saves on 37 shots. Essex outdid its season average for goals scored. The 73s average 5.2 goals per game. Essex also got points from Jordan Ryan, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Tyler Scott, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Scott Bromley, who also registered one goal and one assist, Mark MacPherson, who also had one goal and one assist, Daniel McIntyre, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Drew Hull, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. In addition, Essex received assists from Matthew Hebert, who had two and Eric Shaw and Dallas Pereira, who each chipped in one. Wheatley could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Sharks put an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game. Penalties took their toll on Wheatley, as its penalty kill unit let in five power play goals. The Sharks were led by Riley Enns, who scored the team's only goal. Enns scored 10:24 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Essex. Florence provided the assist. Essex ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Team's Adam Gaiarin and Dan Mainella were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Wheatley ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. The Sharks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mosher was ejected from the game.
