Gangnon's hat trick boosts Amherstburg over Dresden, 8-3

Mark Gangnon lifted the Amherstburg Admirals to an 8-3 victory with a hat trick against the Dresden Kings.

Gangnon got on the scoresheet 11:38 into the first period. He then added goals at 4:37 into the third and at 14:58 into the third.

Dresden fell victim to a deadly Amherstburg power play, which ripped the Kings for four goals.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:37 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

The Admirals were often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game Amherstburg had been spending in the box. The Admirals forced Kings' goalies to work without much rest, launching 46 shots and forcing 38 saves. Steven Taylor made 17 stops and Scott Tricker made 21. Amherstburg's goal total was higher than its season average. The Admirals have scored at the pace of 4.3 goals per game during the current campaign.

Others who scored for Amherstburg included Cody Leeming, Steven Spada, Marshal Laing, Jordan Luciw, and Luke Gangnon, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Amherstburg were Mark Sobocan, who had four and Brett Beattie, Ryan Holzel, Dean Patterson, and Kasey Basile, who each chipped in one.

Dresden managed to stay out of the box for the most part, totaling nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The Kings ended up below their season average of 31.0 penalty minutes per game. Dresden forced Amherstburg goalie Arren Romeril to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

The Kings were led by Derrick VanEvery, who registered one goal and one assist. VanEvery scored 12:31 into the second period to make the score 5-3 Amherstburg. David Vergeer picked up the assist. Dresden also had goals scored by Dillon Liberty and Kevin Ritzer, who scored one goal each. More assists for Dresden came via Justin Delgado, Wade Esselment, and John Montgomery, who contributed one each.

Romeril recorded 33 saves for the Admirals. Amherstburg ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Colin Leardi was ejected from the game. Dresden registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. For the Kings, Esselment and Kain Hopkins were ejected from the contest.
