Amherstburg hangs on, beats Wallaceburg 3-1

The Amherstburg Admirals beat the Wallaceburg Lakers, 3-1, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

Chad Copeland provided Amherstburg with the game-winning tally when he scored 5:34 into the first period. Brett Beattie provided the assist.

Wallaceburg was stymied by the Admirals' netminder Daniel Tonietto, who stopped 28 shots during the victory. Tonietto certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.15 entering the contest.

Copeland was all over the ice for Amherstburg, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win.

The Admirals put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Lakers to score on any of their four power plays. Amherstburg forced Wallaceburg goalie Joel Sowinski to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Amherstburg also had goals scored by Brett Banwell and Mark Sobocan, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Amherstburg were Curtis Prymack and James Brooks, who contributed one each.

The Lakers were led by Brock Daugherty, who scored the team's only goal. Daugherty scored 16:29 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Amherstburg. Bronson Bea picked up the assist.

The Admirals incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Wallaceburg's Sowinski stopped 29 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Lakers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
