Walkerton rips Goderich, 6-3

The Walkerton Hawks had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-3 win over the Goderich Flyers.

Walkerton's penalty kill excelled, as the Hawks gave up zero goals despite allowing nine power plays.

Walkerton stifled Goderich's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Hawks were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 38 penalty minutes.

Walkerton was led by Brett Coulson, who grabbed two goals. Coulson scored the first of his two goals at 14:16 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Walkerton. Ryan Hamelin assisted on the tally. Coulson's next tally made the score 3-2 Walkerton with 8:59 left in the second period. The Hawks had taken the advantage when the Flyers' Eric McPhee got sent off for high sticking. Hamelin picked up the assist. Walkerton additionally got points from Josh Deyell, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Lauchlin Elder, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Walkerton included John McCrae and Matt Shields, who each put in one. In addition, Walkerton received assists from Chris Gillman, who had one and Austin Russell, who had two.

Goderich was led by Chase Duckworth, who registered two goals. Duckworth scored the first of his two goals at 5:00 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Brandon Priestap assisted on the tally. Duckworth's next tally made the score 5-3 Walkerton with 2:25 left in the third period. Marcel Fohkens picked up the assist. Goderich also got a goal from Andrew Gooding as well. Other players who recorded assists for Goderich were Joseph Dykstra, who had one.

Walkerton's Tristan Lewis stopped 26 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Hawks registered one goal on 10 power play opportunities. Nathan Watson rejected 18 shots on goal for the Flyers. Goderich incurred 40 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
