Wellesley wins tough contest against Woodstock, 3-2Woodstock Community Center Fri, Jan 09, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wellesley Applejacks gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Woodstock Navy Vets. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Tysen Willemsen secured the win for Wellesley with a goal in the second period. Woodstock's power play was ineffective against the Applejacks' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. Wellesley was sparked by Willemsen, who registered one goal and one assist. Willemsen scored 14:01 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Wellesley. Alex Uttley picked up the assist. The Applejacks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game. Wellesley also had goals scored by Tyler Seguin and Cal Jefferies, who scored one goal each. More assists for Wellesley came via Matt Schieck and Sean McEwan, who each chipped in one. The Navy Vets stifled Wellesley's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Woodstock kept the Applejacks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Tim Bester made 46 saves on 48 shots. The Navy Vets were led by Matt Jauernig, who finished with one goal and one assist. Jauernig scored on the power play 8:09 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Woodstock earned a power play opportunity when Justin Lebold was put in the box for cross checking. Max Coyle assisted on the tally. Justin Elms also scored for Woodstock. In addition, Woodstock received assists from Mike Gillespie and Dan Haig, who contributed one each. Wellesley registered zero goals on three power play opportunities. The Navy Vets' Jackson Swindells stopped 22 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Woodstock incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the Navy Vets, Gillespie was ejected from the game. |
