Burford outlasts Ayr, 4-2Burford Community Centre Sat, Dec 27, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Burford Bulldogs and the Ayr Centennials was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Burford emerged with a 4-2 win. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Connor Merritt secured the win for the Bulldogs with a goal in the third period. Burford's penalty kill excelled, as the Bulldogs gave up zero goals despite allowing 11 power plays. Burford was sparked by Merritt, who registered one goal and one assist. Merritt scored 17:57 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Burford. The Bulldogs forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. Burford surpassed its season average of 28.0 penalty minutes per game. The Bulldogs stifled Ayr's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Kovrig scored 4:53 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Ayr. Jake Whibbs assisted on the tally. Mackenzie Kemp also scored for Ayr. More assists for Ayr came via Logan Beechey, who had one.
