Early goals doom Wellesley, falls to Paris, 7-2

A four-goal first period deficit cost the Wellesley Applejacks, which could not recover and fell to the Paris Mounties, 7-2.

Paris got the win with help from a great game by Ryan Stephenson, who had one goal and two assists. Stephenson scored 16:38 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Paris. Scott Sippel assisted on the tally.

The Mounties' penalty kill excelled, as Paris gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Mounties forced Wellesley's goalies to work between the pipes, finishing with 34 shots and forcing 27 saves. Tim Bester made eight stops and Keaton Weiss made 19. Paris bested its season scoring average. This season, the Mounties average 3.6 goals per contest.

Paris additionally got points from Brady Wheelans, who also had one goal and one assist, Brett Wilson, who also registered one goal and two assists, Brodie Smith, who also racked up two goals and two assists to lead the team in points, and Merrit Crumback, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Paris also got a goal from Brian Mueller as well. In addition, Paris received assists from Jacob Norcott, Andrew Heibein, and Tye Calder, who contributed one each.

Wellesley also had goals scored by Cal Jefferies and Matt Schieck, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were Taylor Doering, Reid Denstedt, and Justin Lebold, who each chipped in one.

Paris' Zach Shomphe stopped 26 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Mounties incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Applejacks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
