Whibbs' goals lift Ayr to 4-1 victory over NorwichNorth Dumfries Thu, Oct 30, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Jake Whibbs was all over the ice for the Ayr Centennials, as he tallied two goals in Ayr's 4-1 win over the Norwich Merchants. Whibbs scored at 2:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ayr and again while 9:57 into the first to make the score 2-0 Ayr.The Centennials' Lee Doherty was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 28 saves and let only one puck past him. Doherty managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.8 prior to the game. Ayr's penalty kill excelled, as the Centennials gave up zero goals despite allowing 10 power plays. Ayr stifled Norwich's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Centennials' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Ayr finished with 36 penalty minutes. Others who scored for Ayr included Riley Clipper and Anthony Pullia, who each put in one. More assists for Ayr came via Colin Schuringa, who had two and Alex Ritchie, Austin Kovrig, Eric Hackborn, and Andrew Richard, who contributed one each. The Merchants could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Norwich puts an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. The Merchants were led by Brandon Velda, who scored the team's only goal. Velda scored 10:41 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Ayr. Mitchell Berzins assisted on the tally. The Centennials registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Norwich's Justin Pacheco stopped 26 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Merchants incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For Norwich, Ryan Stephenson was ejected from the game. |
