Erin outlasts Schomberg, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Erin Shamrocks escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Schomberg Cougars.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Adam Gibson's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

Erin got the win with help from a great game by Gibson, who had two goals and one assist. Gibson scored the first of his two goals at 10:30 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Erin. Ben Nicolucci provided the assist. Gibson's next tally made the score 4-2 Erin with 9:06 left in the second period. Pat Reay assisted on the tally.

Schomberg's power play was ineffective against the Shamrocks' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Erin stifled the Cougars' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Shamrocks were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 58 penalty minutes.

Erin also got points from Reay, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Chris Grenier, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Erin received assists from Adam Anderson and Liam Adamson, who contributed one each.

Schomberg's power play was punchless, and failed to score a single goal despite having 12 power play opportunities.

The Cougars were helped by Jordan Kreller, who tallied one goal. Kreller scored 2:45 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Schomberg. Tristan Joseph picked up the assist. Brandon Savoy also scored for Schomberg. Other players who recorded assists for Schomberg were Liam Spurgeon, Nicholas Chaykowsky, and Tanner Smith, who each chipped in one.

Erin's Tom Denstedt stopped 24 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Shamrocks registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Luke Gamoyda made 18 saves for Schomberg on 22 shots. The Cougars incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For Schomberg, Mitchell Robinson was ejected from the game.
