Binnie nets hat trick, leads Orillia to 6-0 win over Midland

The Midland Flyers could not stop the Orillia Terriers' Jason Binnie, who tallied a hat trick in a 6-0 win.

Binnie notched his first tally 9:52 into the first period. He then added goals at 36 seconds into the second and at 7:29 into the third.

Orillia led by only one goal at the end of the first period, but put the game away by scoring three goals in the second.

The Terriers were boosted by Gordie Weiss, who turned in a shutout with 44 saves. Weiss certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.94 entering the contest.

Orillia forced Midland's goaltenders to work without much rest, taking 52 shots and forcing 46 saves. Jake Norton made 30 stops and Matt Camilleri made 16. The Terriers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Midland power plays. Orillia outdid its season average for goals scored. The Terriers average 3.7 goals per game.

Orillia also got points from Ryan Tucci, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Orillia also had goals scored by Jacob Beard and Sean Crowe, who scored one goal each. In addition, Orillia received assists from Mathew White, Konnor Blimke, and Tyler Mason, who each chipped in one and Brock Welsh and Jordan Felix, who contributed two each.

The Flyers were held below their usual level of production. Midland puts an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. The Flyers' offense rang up 44 shots on Orillia's net. Midland was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 24 penalty minutes.

The Terriers incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. For the Flyers, Jason Stone was ejected from the game.
