Fergus vanquishes Alliston in shootout, 6-5 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Fergus Devils defeated the Alliston Hornets in a shootout 6-5 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams. Alliston's shootout goal was scored by Jacob Tuck. Fergus also got a shootout goal from Griffin Heitshu.

The Devils came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. Fergus was down 5-2 after a goal by the Hornets' Jamie Bennett at 1:04 in the third period. The Devils knotted things up at 5-5 on a goal by Brock Philips at 12:43 in the third period.

Philips had two goals to lead Fergus to victory.

The Devils kept Alliston's goalie busy throughout the game, and TJ Sherwood made 40 saves on 46 shots. Fergus bested its season scoring average. The Devils average 3.5 goals per game. Fergus' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals. The Devils were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 28 penalty minutes.

Fergus also got points from Joshua Schafer, who also tallied one goal and one assist and James Murray, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Fergus also had goals scored by Joey Shaw and Mike Traves, who scored one goal each. In addition, Fergus received assists from Ben Roelofson, who had two and Heitshu, Patrick Snell, Paolo Chemello, and Sam Natale, who each chipped in one.

Fergus was unable to stop the Hornets from sending pucks towards the net, and Alliston eventually piled up 48 shots on goal. The Hornets gave up more goals than its normal season average. Alliston averages 2.5 goals allowed per game.

The Hornets were helped by Matt Taylor, who racked up one goal and one assist. Taylor scored on the power play 16:51 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Alliston. Alliston earned a power play opportunity when Philips was put in the box for slashing. Nic Archibald provided the assist. Alliston additionally got points from Mark ODonnell, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Connor Annett also scored for Alliston. More assists for Alliston came via Steve Griggs, Payton Dunlop, Tuck, Tanner Dockerty, Nick Arcan, and Ryan Lewis, who contributed one each.

Alex Elliott recorded 43 saves for the Devils. Fergus registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. The Hornets incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
