Schomberg uses shootout to best Caledon, 5-4 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Schomberg Cougars defeated the Caledon Golden Hawks in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured five attempts between both teams. Caledon got a shootout goal from Daniel Cafagna. Schomberg also got a shootout goal from Joseph Mete.

Dan Naccarato AP had two goals to lead the Cougars to victory. Naccarato AP scored at 16 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Schomberg and again while 15:34 into the third to make the score 4-4.

The Golden Hawks were unable to stop Schomberg from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cougars eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

Schomberg also had goals scored by Kiefer McIntosh and Brandon Savoy, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Schomberg were Brandon Yorke, who had two and Mitchell Robinson, Tristan Joseph, Blake Culley, Declan Lampe, and Jordan Kreller, who contributed one each.

Caledon forced Schomberg goalie Taylor Ewart to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. The Golden Hawks' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Caledon finished with 26 penalty minutes. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

The Golden Hawks were helped by Cody Forgione, who racked up one goal. Forgione scored on the power play 9:54 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Caledon had taken the advantage when the Cougars' Derek Neilly got sent off for holding. Christian Mariconda assisted on the tally. Caledon also got points from James Pitsadiotis, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Caledon included Christian Bonaldi and Steve Zeppieri, who scored one goal each. More assists for Caledon came via Cafagna, who had one.

Ewart rejected 31 shots on goal for Schomberg. The Cougars incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. For Schomberg, Joseph was ejected from the game. Sam Procopio recorded 37 saves for the Golden Hawks. Caledon registered two goals on six power play opportunities. The Golden Hawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Zeppieri was ejected from the game.
