Orillia vanquishes Caledon in shootout, 2-1 (3-2 SO)Caledon East Arena Sun, Jan 11, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Orillia Terriers defeated the Caledon Golden Hawks in a shootout 2-1 (3-2 SO). The shootout featured 20 attempts between both teams. Caledon got shootout goals from Mitchell Hall and Nicholas McNutt. Orillia's other shootout goals were scored by Jacob Beard and Sean Crowe.The Terriers came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Orillia fell behind 1-0 after a power play goal by the Golden Hawks' Christian Mariconda at 12:49 in the first period. The Terriers knotted things up at 1-1 on a goal by Tyler Mason at 11:50 in the second period. Caledon was stymied by Orillia's netminder Gordie Weiss, who stopped 32 shots during the victory. Weiss managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.94 prior to the game. The Terriers kept the Golden Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and James Cyfko made 51 saves on 53 shots. More assists for Orillia came via Crowe and Kyle Taylor, who each chipped in one. Caledon stifled Orillia's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Golden Hawks could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Caledon puts an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game. The Terriers were unable to stop the Golden Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Caledon eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. In addition, Caledon received assists from Christian Burel, who had one. Orillia incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Terriers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Garret Franzin was ejected from the game. The Golden Hawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
