Trisan Centre    Mon, Jan 05, 2015

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Stayner Siskins defeated the Schomberg Cougars in a shootout 2-1 (2-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for four attempts between the teams. Stayner also got a shootout goal from Quinten Bruce.

The Siskins came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Stayner was down 1-0 after a goal by Schomberg's John Gage at 11:23 in the first period. The Siskins knotted things up at 1-1 on a goal by Ricky Darrell at 14:25 in the first period.

Stayner was led by goalie Trevor Bloch, who finished with 31 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Bloch will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.75.

The Siskins' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Schomberg power plays. Stayner did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Siskins put an average of 4.2 pucks into the net per game.

Other players who recorded assists for Stayner were Bruce and Sean Healy, who each chipped in one.

The Cougars excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Schomberg was held below its usual level of production. The Cougars average 3.7 goals per game. Schomberg forced Stayner goalie Bloch to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

In addition, Schomberg received assists from Blake Culley and Brandon Yorke, who contributed one each.

The Siskins incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Taylor Ewart rejected 28 shots on goal for the Cougars. Schomberg incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
