Mariconda leads Caledon over Erin, 6-2

The Caledon Golden Hawks' Christian Mariconda had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in his team's 6-2 win over the Erin Shamrocks.

Mariconda's tallies came at 2:09 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Caledon and on the power play 19:21 into the third to make the score 6-2 Caledon.

Erin fell victim to a deadly Caledon power play, which ripped the Shamrocks for four goals.

The Golden Hawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Erin to score on any of its 12 power plays. Caledon outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Golden Hawks average 3.6 goals per contest.

Caledon also got points from Ryan Mouser, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Caledon included Randy Chen, Daniel Cafagna, and Ryan Wonfor, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Caledon were Derek Czech and James Pitsadiotis, who each chipped in one and Nicholas McNutt, Steven Klomp, and Christian Burel, who contributed two each.

The Shamrocks' offense rang up 32 shots on Caledon's net. Erin was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 36 penalty minutes.

The Shamrocks were helped by Tyler Topham, who registered one goal and one assist. Topham scored 13:40 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Caledon. Adam Gibson assisted on the tally. Erin additionally got points from Gibson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Erin received assists from Chris Grenier, who had one.

The Golden Hawks' James Cyfko stopped 30 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Caledon incurred 72 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Golden Hawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ben Ardis was ejected from the game. Mitch Christopher made 24 saves for Erin on 30 shots.
