Erin falls to Orillia in overtime, 6-5 (OT)Coldwater Arena Sun, Dec 28, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Orillia Terriers pulled out a 6-5 (OT) overtime victory over the Erin Shamrocks on a clutch goal by Konnor Blimke. Orillia overcame a four-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Terriers fell behind 4-0 after a goal by Erin's Tyler Nieuwendyk at 15:10 in the second period. Orillia tied things up at 5-5 on a goal by Jason Binnie at 15:53 in the third period. The Shamrocks' power play was ineffective against the Terriers' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Orillia's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on nine Erin power plays. The Terriers forced Erin goalie Tom Denstedt to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. Orillia found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Terriers average 3.6 goals per contest. Orillia's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. The Terriers were led by Brock Welsh, who had one goal and two assists. Welsh scored on the power play 2:10 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Erin. Orillia earned a power play opportunity when Adam Anderson was put in the box for slashing. Binnie assisted on the tally. Orillia also got points from Binnie, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Matt Clifford, who also registered one goal and two assists, Blimke, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Jordan Felix, who also had one goal and one assist. Orillia also got a goal from Mathew White as well. Other players who recorded assists for Orillia were Gordie Weiss, Ryan Tucci, Jacob Beard, Garret Franzin, and Kyle Taylor, who each chipped in one. The Terriers were unable to stop the Shamrocks from sending pucks towards the net, and Erin eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. The Shamrocks were led by Chris Grenier, who finished with two goals and one assist. Grenier scored the first of his two goals at 17:41 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Erin. Anderson provided the assist. Grenier's next tally made the score 3-0 Erin with 6:19 left in the second period. Adam Gibson picked up the assist. Erin additionally got points from Gibson, who also registered one goal and one assist and Tyler Topham, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Erin came via Pat Reay and Connor Mortimer, who contributed one each. Gordie Weiss made 27 saves for Orillia on 32 shots. The Terriers incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Denstedt recorded 36 saves for Erin. The Shamrocks incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
