Cafagna's hat trick boosts Caledon over Penetang, 10-5

Daniel Cafagna lifted the Caledon Golden Hawks to a 10-5 victory with a hat trick against the Penetang Kings.

Cafagna's first goal came 9:28 into the first period. He then added goals at 12:54 into the second and at 6:51 into the third.

Caledon pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 12 penalty minutes.

The Golden Hawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Penetang to score on any of its six power plays. The Kings were unable to stop Caledon from sending pucks towards the net, and the Golden Hawks eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. Caledon's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Golden Hawks average 3.5 goals per contest.

Caledon also got points from Christian Mariconda, who also grabbed three goals and one assist and Christian Burel, who also had one goal and two assists. Steve Zeppieri also scored for Caledon. In addition, Caledon received assists from Mike Bozzelli and Mitchell Hall, who each chipped in one and Jake Mottershaw and James Pitsadiotis, who contributed two each.

Penetang forced Caledon goalie James Cyfko to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

The Kings were helped by Ryan Hackett, who finished with two goals. Hackett scored the first of his two goals at 7:00 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Caledon. Zach Bertucca picked up the assist. Hackett's next tally made the score 5-5 with 18:08 left in the third period. Matt Meher assisted on the tally. Penetang additionally got points from Kyle Dedecker, who also registered one goal and one assist and Matt VanBoven, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Penetang also got a goal from Jordan Schwartz as well. Other players who recorded assists for Penetang were Dan Hogan, Brad Kuepfer, and Craig Robinson, who each chipped in one.

James Cyfko made 29 saves for the Golden Hawks on 34 shots. Caledon registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Adam Redgate rejected 31 shots on goal for Penetang. The Kings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
