Schomberg's Culley deadly on offense in 5-2 win against Fergus

The Schomberg Cougars relied on the scoring touch of Blake Culley, who netted two goals, to beat the Fergus Devils, 5-2.

Culley scored at 10:51 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Schomberg and again while 1:22 into the third to make the score 3-1 Schomberg.

Fergus' power play was ineffective against Schomberg's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Devils were unable to stop the Cougars from sending pucks towards the net, and Schomberg eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Schomberg also had goals scored by Nicholas Chaykowsky, Declan Lampe, and Tanner Smith, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Schomberg were JP Crescenzi, Joseph Mete, Ryley Egerton, and Justin Formenton, who each chipped in one and John Gage and Brandon Yorke, who contributed two each.

Fergus excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Devils' offense rang up 41 shots on the Cougars' net.

Fergus was helped by Mike Traves, who tallied one goal. Traves scored on the power play 3:32 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fergus. A tripping penalty on Chaykowsky had put the Devils on the power play. Ben Roelofson picked up the assist. Fergus additionally got points from Roelofson, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Fergus received assists from David Serra, Griffin Heitshu, and Patrick Snell, who each chipped in one.

Taylor Ewart recorded 39 saves for Schomberg. The Cougars incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Fergus' Serra stopped 28 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Devils incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
