Orillia blows out Midland, 7-0

The Midland Flyers had trouble finding ways to stop the Orillia Terriers, which beat Flyers, 7-0.

Orillia's penalty kill excelled, as the Terriers gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Orillia was led by Jean-Philip Labonte, who tallied one goal. Labonte scored 1:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Orillia. Kyle Taylor provided the assist.

The Terriers forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and one major for 45 minutes in penalty time. Orillia had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Terriers stifled Midland's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Flyers were unable to stop Orillia from sending pucks towards the net, and the Terriers eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. Orillia's goal total was higher than its season average. The Terriers have scored at the pace of 3.5 goals per game during the current campaign. Orillia got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Orillia additionally got points from Ryan Tucci, who also had one goal and one assist, Jacob Beard, who also racked up two goals and two assists to lead the team in points, and Jordan Felix, who also registered one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Orillia included Andrew Windrem and Garret Franzin, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Orillia were Mathew White, who had two and Jason Binnie, Matt Clifford, Konnor Blimke, and Brock Welsh, who contributed one each.

Midland's offense operated below its season average. The Flyers put an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. Midland could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 70 minutes in penalties during the game.

Gordie Weiss recorded 23 saves for the Terriers. Orillia registered two goals on 12 power play opportunities. The Terriers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Taylor was ejected from the game. The Flyers' Matt Camilleri stopped 33 shots out of the 40 that he faced.
