Huntsville blows out Erin, 10-2

The Erin Shamrocks had trouble finding ways to stop the Huntsville Otters, which beat Shamrocks, 10-2.

Erin's power play was ineffective against Huntsville's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Otters forced the Shamrocks' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, totaling 34 shots and forcing 24 saves. Mark Terry made 19 stops and Tom Denstedt made five. Huntsville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Erin to score on any of its nine power plays. The Otters' goal total was higher than their season average. Huntsville has scored at the pace of 4.4 goals per game during the current campaign. The defensemen of the Otters were also effective in the Shamrocks' zone, and came away with three goals.

Huntsville was helped by Tanner Hamilton, who had two goals and two assists. Hamilton scored the first of his two goals at 12:32 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Huntsville. Sam King provided the assist. Hamilton's next tally made the score 6-1 Huntsville with 6:39 left in the second period. Jesse Houlton picked up the assist. Huntsville additionally got points from Houlton, who also grabbed two goals and two assists, Jake McIntyre, who also registered one goal and three assists, Jamie Halnan, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Myles York, who also had one goal and three assists. Josh Zantingh also scored for Huntsville. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Riley Vogels and Evan Wilding, who each chipped in one and Elliott Lade and Jay Dix, who contributed two each.

Erin was helped by Tyler Topham, who tallied one goal. Topham scored 7:31 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Huntsville. Chris Grenier assisted on the tally. Erin also got points from Adam Gibson, who also registered one goal and one assist.

Hunter Ferguson recorded 23 saves for the Otters. Huntsville incurred 56 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Shamrocks incurred 40 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Erin ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Topham was ejected from the game.
