Schomberg beats Orillia 9-5 as Crescenzi gets hat trick

JP Crescenzi netted a hat trick to lead the Schomberg Cougars over the Orillia Terriers, 9-5.

Crescenzi's first goal came 5:22 into the first period. He then added goals at 25 seconds into the second and at 18:47 into the second.

Schomberg forced Terriers' netminders to work in net, racking up 51 shots and forcing 42 saves. Noah Leis made 36 stops and Andrew Carpanzano made six. The Cougars outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Schomberg averages 3.6 goals per contest. The Cougars were held back by their power play unit, which tallied one goal on 10 chances. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Schomberg additionally got points from Derek Neilly, who also grabbed one goal and three assists, Kiefer McIntosh, who also had one goal and two assists, John Gage, who also finished with three goals and one assist, and Brandon Yorke, who also registered one goal and two assists. More assists for Schomberg came via Taylor Ewart, who had one, Joseph Mete, who had three, and Blake Culley, who had four.

Orillia had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on nine chances. The Terriers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game.

Orillia was helped by Jacob Beard, who grabbed two goals and two assists. Beard scored the first of his two goals at 48 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Orillia. Brock Welsh assisted on the tally. Beard's next tally made the score 5-3 Schomberg with 9:42 left in the second period. Welsh picked up the assist. Orillia also got points from Welsh, who also had one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Orillia included Mathew White and Matt Clifford, who each put in one. In addition, Orillia received assists from Ryan Tucci, who had one and Garret Franzin, who had two.

Ewart recorded 24 saves for Schomberg. The Cougars incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
