Alliston rips Schomberg, 8-1

The Schomberg Cougars had trouble finding ways to stop the Alliston Hornets, which beat Cougars, 8-1.

Alliston got the win thanks to a great game by Jamie Bennett, who had two goals and one assist. Bennett scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:34 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Alliston. The Hornets had gained a power play chance when Justin Formenton was whistled for tripping. Matt Taylor picked up the assist. Bennett's next tally on the power play made the score 6-0 Alliston with 9:33 left in the second period. Andrew Ceolin assisted on the tally.

Alliston forced Schomberg's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, launching 36 shots and forcing 28 saves. Taylor Ewart made 12 stops and Luke Gamoyda made 16. The Hornets' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Schomberg power plays. Alliston outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Hornets average 5.3 goals per contest.

Alliston also got points from Jacob Tuck, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Tanner Dockerty, who also registered one goal and one assist, Taylor, who also had one goal and one assist, and Nic Archibald, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Alliston included Matt Hamilton and Ryan Franks, who each put in one. More assists for Alliston came via Mark ODonnell, who had three and Mike Barosso, Matt Cochrane, and Ryan Lewis, who each chipped in one.

The Cougars were held below their usual level of production. Schomberg puts an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. The Cougars could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Tyler Brindle made 16 saves for Alliston on 17 shots. The Hornets incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
