Midland falls to Stayner in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

Dakota Hynes gave the Stayner Siskins a 6-5 (OT) victory over the Midland Flyers when he scored 1:43 into the extra period.

Stayner came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Siskins fell behind 3-1 after a goal by Midland's Neal Burgess at 3:54 in the second period. Stayner knotted things up at 5-5 on a goal by Trevor Franklin at 2:39 in the third period.

The Siskins was paced on offense by Hynes and Ben Lougheed, who combined for five points. Hynes tallied one goal and two assists and Lougheed also added two goals.

The Flyers were unable to stop Stayner from sending pucks towards the net, and the Siskins eventually piled up 45 shots on goal. Stayner's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

Others who scored for Stayner included Jamieson Buck and Sean Healy, who scored one goal each. In addition, Stayner received assists from Brandon Watson, who had two and Cooper Martin, Brett Gauthier, Ryan Hyndman, Ryan Hudson, and Ricky Darrell, who contributed one each.

Midland forced the Siskins goalie Trevor Bloch to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

The Flyers were helped by Jake Evans, who registered two goals. Evans scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 4:04 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Midland. Midland had taken the advantage when Stayner's Gauthier got sent off for interference. Bobby Logan assisted on the tally. Evans' next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 Midland with 36 seconds left in the second period. Evan Buehler picked up the assist. Midland additionally got points from Logan, who also finished with one goal and one assist. More assists for Midland came via Jon Goldsworthy, Nick Heins, Ben Skuce, Steven Pickard, and Corey DeRose, who each chipped in one.

The Siskins' Bloch stopped 27 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Stayner incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Matt Camilleri made 39 saves for the Flyers on 45 shots. Midland incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
