Erin holds on for 7-5 win against Orillia

The Orillia Terriers tried to dig themselves out of a six-goal hole, but the Erin Shamrocks held on for a 7-5 victory.

Erin made the score 7-1 on a goal by Adam Ferrer at 1:46 in the third period, and Orillia got as close as 7-5 when Brock Welsh scored 19:55 into the third period.

Tyler Topham was all over the ice for the Shamrocks, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Topham scored the first of his two goals short handed at 3:23 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Erin. Erin was on a disadvantage when Braydon Cresswell went off the ice for hooking. Chris Grenier picked up the assist. Topham's next tally short handed made the score 6-1 Erin with 5:06 left in the second period. Tyler Nieuwendyk assisted on the tally.

The Shamrocks forced Terriers' goalies to work all game long, totaling 39 shots and forcing 32 saves. Gordie Weiss made 16 stops and Noah Leis made 16. Erin's goal total was higher than its season average. The Shamrocks average 3.7 goals per game.

Erin additionally got points from Pat Reay, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Adam Gibson, who also finished with two goals and one assist, and Grenier, who also registered one goal and two assists. More assists for Erin came via Adam Anderson and Connor Mortimer, who each chipped in one.

The Terriers' offense rang up 45 shots on Erin's net.

Orillia was led by Jason Binnie, who tallied two goals and one assist. Binnie scored the first of his two goals at 8:08 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Orillia. Konnor Blimke picked up the assist. Binnie's next tally made the score 7-3 Erin with 9:21 left in the third period. Ryan Tucci assisted on the tally. Orillia also got points from Mathew White, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, Greg Buchanan, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Welsh, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Orillia received assists from Matt Clifford, who had one.

Mark Terry rejected 40 shots on goal for the Shamrocks. Erin incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Terriers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Orillia ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jean-Philip Labonte was ejected from the game.
