Fergus survives Penetang comeback, wins 4-2

The Fergus Devils, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Penetang Kings and clinched a 4-2 victory.

Fergus led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Devils' Mike Traves scored at 19:27 in the third period to put Fergus up 5-2.

Griffin Heitshu was all over the ice for the Devils, as he racked up two goals in the win. Heitshu found the back of the net on the power play 18:39 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 16:45 into the second to make the score 4-2 Fergus.

Fergus' offense rang up 41 shots on Penetang's net.

Fergus also got points from James Murray, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Paolo Chemello, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Fergus came via Ben Roelofson, Patrick Snell, and Matthew Clarke, who contributed one each.

Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. The Kings could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Penetang was led by Hayden Cole, who registered two goals. Cole scored the first of his two goals at 14:08 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Penetang. Craig Robinson picked up the assist. Cole's next tally made the score 2-2 with 10:15 left in the second period. The Kings earned a power play opportunity when Reese DeBrouwer was put in the box for high sticking. Jordan Schwartz assisted on the tally. In addition, Penetang received assists from Ryan Hackett, who had one.

Alex Elliott recorded 25 saves for the Devils. Fergus incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Adam Redgate rejected 37 shots on goal for Penetang. The Kings registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
