Huge game by Grenier boosts Erin over Fergus, 7-4

Chris Grenier had two goals and one assist to lead the Erin Shamrocks to a 7-4 victory over the Fergus Devils.

Grenier found the back of the net 12:53 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Erin and again while 9:18 into the second to make the score 3-3.

Fergus was unable to stop Erin from sending pucks towards the net, and the Shamrocks eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. Erin bested its season scoring average. This season, the Shamrocks average 3.7 goals per contest. Erin could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game.

Erin additionally got points from Adam Ferrer, who also had one goal and two assists and Adam Gibson, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Erin also had goals scored by Owen Adamson, Pat Reay, and Darcy Hackett, who scored one goal each. In addition, Erin received assists from Tyler Nieuwendyk, Tyler Topham, Brad Ranson, and Liam Adamson, who each chipped in one.

The Devils excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Fergus' offense rang up 32 shots on the Shamrocks' net.

The Devils were led by Mike Traves, who grabbed one goal and two assists. Traves scored on the power play 17:56 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Fergus had taken the advantage when Erin's Adam Anderson got sent off for slashing. Patrick Snell provided the assist. Fergus also got points from Snell, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Fergus included Joshua Schafer and James Murray, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Fergus were Griffin Heitshu, who had two.

The Shamrocks' Tom Denstedt stopped 28 shots out of the 32 that he faced. For Erin, Travis Knight was ejected from the game. David Serra recorded 29 saves for the Devils. Fergus incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Devils ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Schafer was ejected from the game.
