Schomberg rips Orillia, 8-4

The Schomberg Cougars had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 8-4 win over the Orillia Terriers.

Tanner Smith was all over the ice for Schomberg, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Smith scored the first of his two goals short handed at 10:10 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Schomberg. The Cougars played down a man on Nathan Sinclair's ineligible player. Blake Culley assisted on the tally. Smith's next tally short handed made the score 7-2 Schomberg with 7:13 left in the second period. Schomberg found itself down a man on Sinclair's cross checking.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:02 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Cougars bested their season scoring average. Schomberg has scored at the pace of 3.2 goals per game during the current campaign.

Schomberg additionally got points from Francesco Corona, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Culley, who also registered two goals and one assist. JP Crescenzi also scored for Schomberg. In addition, Schomberg received assists from John Gage, who had two.

Orillia was led by Brock Welsh, who had one goal and two assists. Welsh scored 10:11 into the third period to make the score 8-4 Schomberg. Jacob Beard picked up the assist. Orillia also got points from Beard, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Orillia also got a goal from Greg Buchanan as well. Other players who recorded assists for Orillia were Matt Clifford, who had two and Andrew Windrem and Konnor Blimke, who each chipped in one.

The Cougars' Luke Gamoyda stopped 24 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Schomberg totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. The Cougars ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brandon Savoy was ejected from the game. Gordie Weiss took the loss and made 15 saves before being replaced by Noah Leis who made four saves. The Terriers totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 2-for-8 on the power play. For Orillia, Jamie Borrelli was ejected from the game.
