Orillia boosted by Weiss' play in net, beats Schomberg 5-1

Gordie Weiss stood on his head and made 44 saves to lead the Orillia Terriers to a 5-1 victory over the Schomberg Cougars.

Orillia's penalty kill excelled, as the Terriers gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Orillia was led by Andrew Denne, who racked up one goal. Denne scored 14:31 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Orillia. Konnor Blimke assisted on the tally.

The Terriers' offense rang up 46 shots on Schomberg's net. Orillia had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 13 chances.

Orillia additionally got points from Jason Binnie, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Orillia also had goals scored by Jacob Beard, Denny Benson, and Brock Welsh, who each put in one. More assists for Orillia came via Tyler Simmons, who had one, Ryan Tucci, who had three, and Mathew White and Jason Stone, who each chipped in two.

The Cougars' offense rang up 45 shots on the Terriers' net. Schomberg could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 48 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Cougars were led by Brandon Yorke, who scored the team's only goal. Yorke scored on the power play 5:15 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Orillia. Schomberg had taken the advantage when Orillia's Matt Clifford got sent off for holding. John Gage picked up the assist.

The Terriers incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. For Orillia, Joshua Bailey and Simmons were ejected from the contest. Taylor Ewart recorded 41 saves for the Cougars. For Schomberg, Ryley Egerton was ejected from the game.
