Midland falls to Huntsville in overtime, 5-4 (OT)Canada Summit Centre Fri, Oct 31, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Huntsville Otters pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Midland Flyers on a clutch goal by Evan Wilding. Although Huntsville was up by as many as two goals in the third period, Midland kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The Flyers pulled to within 4-3 on a goal by Daniel Pickering at 7:27 in the third period. The Otters were sparked by Wilding, who finished with one goal. Wilding scored 3:30 into overtime to make the score 5-4 Huntsville. Dalton Mceachran provided the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:49 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Midland was unable to stop Huntsville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Otters eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. Huntsville also got points from Jake McIntyre, who also registered one goal and one assist and Jamie Halnan, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Huntsville also had goals scored by Corey Miller and Tyler Brown, who each put in one. More assists for Huntsville came via Jesse Houlton, Josh Zantingh, Chris Goodfellow, Sean Crowe, and Walker Davison, who contributed one each. The Flyers' offense rang up 36 shots on Huntsville's net. The defensemen of Midland were also effective in the Otters' zone, and came away with two goals. The Flyers were helped by Steven Pickard, who had two goals. Pickard scored the first of his two goals at 2:46 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Midland. Evan Buehler picked up the assist. Pickard's next tally made the score 4-4 with 4:29 left in the third period. Buehler assisted on the tally. In addition, Midland received assists from Nick Heins, who had two and Jimmy Walter, Neal Burgess, Matt Smith, and Will Craig, who each chipped in one. Connor Christianson made 32 saves for Huntsville on 36 shots. The Otters totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. For Huntsville, Sam King was ejected from the game. Jake Norton rejected 28 shots on goal for Midland. The Flyers totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Midland ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jon Goldsworthy was ejected from the game. |
