Caledon blows out Fergus, 4-1

The Caledon Golden Hawks were firing on all cylinders against the Fergus Devils, and when the final buzzer sounded Golden Hawks emerged with a 4-1 win.

Fergus was stymied by Caledon's netminder James Cyfko, who stopped 39 shots during the victory. Cyfko managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.86 prior to the game.

The Golden Hawks' penalty kill excelled, as Caledon gave up one goal despite allowing 11 power plays.

The Golden Hawks' offense rang up 31 shots on the Devils' net. Caledon's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Golden Hawks finished with 27 penalty minutes.

Caledon was helped by Adam Breen, who racked up one goal. Breen scored 3:12 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Caledon. Chris Smith provided the assist. Derek Czech also scored for Caledon. More assists for Caledon came via Nicholas McNutt, who had two and Jake Mottershaw, Steve Zeppieri, Michael Andrews, and James Pitsadiotis, who each chipped in one.

Fergus stifled the Golden Hawks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Devils' offense operated below their season average. Fergus averages 3.7 goals per game. The Devils' offense rang up 40 shots on Caledon's net.

Fergus was led by Mikael Ruffini, who scored the team's only goal. Ruffini scored on the power play 16:19 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Caledon. The Devils had taken the advantage when the Golden Hawks' Breen got sent off for cross checking. Griffin Heitshu picked up the assist.

Caledon registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. For the Golden Hawks, Breen and Nick Figliomeni were ejected from the contest. Fergus' Alex Elliott stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Devils incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
