The Alliston Hornets beat the Schomberg Cougars, 2-0, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

Alliston took over the lead for good with a goal by Matt Cochrane at 5:54 in the first period. Jamie Bennett provided the assist.

TJ Sherwood frustrated Schomberg's offense all game, and stopped 28 shots en route to a shutout. Sherwood managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.02 prior to the game.

The Cougars' power play was ineffective against the Hornets' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 11:59 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Alliston was often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and two majors for 62 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game the Hornets had been spending in the box. Alliston's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on 12 Schomberg power plays. The Hornets were held below their usual level of production. Alliston averages 4.9 goals per game.

Alliston also got points from Bennett, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Alliston were Adam Arsenault, who had one.

Schomberg racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and one major for 45 minutes in penalty time. The Cougars surpassed its season average of 32.0 penalty minutes per game. Schomberg's offense operated below its season average. The Cougars put an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game.

The Hornets registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For Alliston, Zack Byblow and Ryan Lewis were ejected from the contest. Taylor Ewart rejected 28 shots on goal for Schomberg. The Cougars ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matthew Hudgin was ejected from the game.
