Schomberg holds on for 4-3 win against Caledon

The Schomberg Cougars survived a determined comeback attempt by the Caledon Golden Hawks on the way to a 4-3 win.

Schomberg took a 3-1 lead during the second period, only to have Caledon storm back on a Christian Bonaldi goal 45 seconds into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Golden Hawks' power play was ineffective against the Cougars' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Schomberg forced Caledon goalie Sam Procopio to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. The Cougars were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 29 penalty minutes.

Schomberg was helped by John Gage, who finished with one goal. Gage scored 9:04 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Schomberg. Ryley Egerton provided the assist. Schomberg also got points from JP Crescenzi, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Brandon Yorke, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Schomberg also got a goal from Francesco Corona as well. More assists for Schomberg came via Derek Neilly, Brandon Savoy, and Blake Culley, who each chipped in one.

Ryan Mouser also scored for Caledon. In addition, Caledon received assists from Cody Forgione, who had two and Jake Mottershaw, Michael Andrews, Chris Smith, and Daniel Cafagna, who contributed one each.

Taylor Ewart made 26 saves for the Cougars on 29 shots. Schomberg registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Cougars ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matthew Hudgin was ejected from the game. Procopio recorded 31 saves for the Golden Hawks. Caledon ended with 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors. Team's Steve Zeppieri, Alex Palumbo, and Steven Klomp were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
