Huntsville hangs on, beats Alliston 2-1Canada Summit Centre Sun, Oct 05, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Huntsville Otters beat the Alliston Hornets, 2-1, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout. Brendan Fitter provided Huntsville with the game-winning tally when he scored 10:25 into the first period. Jake McIntyre picked up the assist.The Otters' Connor Christianson was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 27 saves and let only one puck past him. Christianson managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.25 prior to the game. Huntsville pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 28 penalty minutes. The Otters excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Huntsville was held below its usual level of production. The Otters average 4.1 goals per game. Huntsville was helped by Josh Zantingh, who racked up one goal. Zantingh scored on the power play 5:12 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Huntsville. The Otters had taken the advantage when Alliston's Matt Hamilton got sent off for head contact. Jamie Halnan assisted on the tally. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Evan Wilding, who had one. The Hornets' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. Alliston had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Hornets could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Alliston puts an average of 5.2 pucks into the net per game. The Hornets were led by Steve Griggs, who scored the team's only goal. Griggs scored 10:26 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Huntsville. Ryan Franks picked up the assist. Huntsville registered one goal on 10 power play opportunities. TJ Sherwood made 25 saves for Alliston on 27 shots. For the Hornets, Joe Cochrane was ejected from the game.
