Caledon rolls over Stayner, 5-1

The Caledon Golden Hawks had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Stayner Siskins.

Derek Czech had a great game for Caledon, netting two goals. Czech scored at 18:28 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Caledon and again while short handed 1:45 into the second to make the score 3-0 Caledon.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:38 into the second period. Six fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts.

The Golden Hawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Stayner to score on any of its four power plays. Caledon kept the Siskins' goalie busy throughout the game, and Xavier Portelance made 28 saves on 33 shots. The Golden Hawks' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Caledon additionally got points from James Pitsadiotis, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, Cody Forgione, who also had one goal and one assist, and Daniel Cafagna, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Caledon received assists from Christian Bonaldi, Ben Ardis, and Steven Klomp, who each chipped in one.

Stayner was often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game the Siskins had been spending in the box. Stayner did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Siskins average 3.3 goals per game. Penalties took their toll on Stayner, as its penalty kill unit let in three power play goals.

Brandon Watson also scored for Stayner. Other players who recorded assists for Stayner were Ryan Hyndman and Kyle Lafreniere, who contributed one each.

Caledon's James Cyfko stopped 21 shots out of the 22 that he faced. The Golden Hawks ended with 36 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and two majors. For Caledon, Randy Chen and Adam Breen were ejected from the contest. Team's Jackson Clarke, Derick Robertson, and dylan walker were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
