Orillia uses shootout to best Schomberg, 5-4 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Orillia Terriers defeated the Schomberg Cougars in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams.

Orillia overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Terriers was down 4-3 after a power play goal by Schomberg's JP Crescenzi at 18:33 in the third period. Orillia tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Jacob Beard at 19:39 in the third period.

The Terriers pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 53 penalty minutes.

Orillia's offense rang up 42 shots on the Cougars' net. The Terriers excelled on the penalty kill, only allowing Schomberg to get one power play goal on 11 chances.

Orillia was led by Tyler Simmons, who racked up two goals. Simmons scored the first of his two goals at 37 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Orillia. Konnor Blimke assisted on the tally. Simmons' next tally made the score 2-1 Orillia with 18:42 left in the second period. An interference penalty on Crescenzi had put the Terriers on the power play. Jason Binnie also scored for Orillia. More assists for Orillia came via Matt Clifford, who had one.

The Cougars kept Orillia's goalie busy throughout the game, and Gordie Weiss made 51 saves on 55 shots.

Schomberg was led by Francesco Corona, who registered two goals and one assist. Corona scored the first of his two goals at 13:32 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Kiefer McIntosh picked up the assist. Corona's next tally made the score 2-2 with 6:58 left in the second period. Tristan Joseph assisted on the tally. Schomberg also got a goal from Liam Spurgeon as well. In addition, Schomberg received assists from Ryley Egerton and Brandon Yorke, who contributed one each.

The Terriers registered one goal on 10 power play opportunities. For Orillia, Beard and Jackson Gunner were ejected from the contest. Luke Gamoyda recorded 37 saves for the Cougars. Schomberg ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major. For the Cougars, Kevin Sarrazin was ejected from the game.
