Huntsville wins tough contest against Erin, 4-3Canada Summit Centre Sun, Sep 28, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Huntsville Otters gutted out a close 4-3 win against the Erin Shamrocks. Huntsville gained the winning advantage on a goal by Sean Crowe 18:52 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. The Otters were led by Crowe, who registered one goal. In the losing effort, Erin was led by Tyler Topham, who racked up two goals. Topham scored the first of his two goals at 4:01 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Adam Gibson picked up the assist. Topham's next tally made the score 3-2 Erin with 6:11 left in the third period. The Shamrocks earned a power play opportunity when Corey Miller was put in the box for hooking. Gibson provided the assist. Erin was unable to stop Huntsville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Otters eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Others who scored for Huntsville included Jay Dix, Josh Zantingh, and Brendan Fitter, who each put in one. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Myles Bissonette, who had three and Jake McIntyre, Evan Lade, Nathan Zantingh, and Walker Davison, who each chipped in one. The Shamrocks stifled Huntsville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Erin forced the Otters goalie Connor Christianson to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Erin additionally got points from Gibson, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Erin were Adam Anderson, Ben Nicolucci, Travis Knight, and Tyler Nieuwendyk, who contributed one each. Connor Christianson made 28 saves for Huntsville on 31 shots. The Otters incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Shamrocks' Mark Terry stopped 28 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Erin incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the Shamrocks, Chris Grenier was ejected from the game.
