Fergus pulls away in second, rolls over Orillia, 6-2

The Fergus Devils used a three-goal second period to put away the Orillia Terriers, 6-2.

Fergus got the win on the strength of a great game by BROCK HESHKA, who had one goal and two assists. HESHKA scored on the power play 9:12 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Devils had gotten the advantage when Orillia's Nathan Beers was sent off for butt-ending. Ben Roelofson assisted on the tally.

Fergus' penalty kill excelled, as the Devils gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

The Terriers were unable to stop Fergus from sending pucks towards the net, and the Devils eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. Fergus' goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Devils average 3.2 goals per contest. Fergus was effective with a man advantage, and put in three goals while on the power play. The Devils' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Fergus additionally got points from Roelofson, who also racked up one goal and three assists to lead the team in points and James McHugh, who also had one goal and one assist. Fergus also got a goal from James Murray as well. More assists for Fergus came via Joey Shaw and Jack Vautour, who contributed one each.

Orillia's offense rang up 37 shots on Fergus' net.

The Terriers were led by Ryan Tucci, who tallied one goal and one assist. Tucci scored on the power play 2:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Orillia. Orillia had taken the advantage when the Devils' Roelofson got sent off for hooking. Jordan Felix picked up the assist. Mathew White also scored for Orillia. In addition, Orillia received assists from Tyler Simmons, who had one.

Fergus' David Serra stopped 35 shots out of the 37 that he faced. The Devils incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Fergus ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mike Traves was ejected from the game. Noah Leis rejected 25 shots on goal for the Terriers. Orillia incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the Terriers, Jason Stone was ejected from the game.
