Schomberg downs Fergus, 6-3

The Fergus Devils fell to the Schomberg Cougars, 6-3.

Schomberg forced Devils' goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, totaling 42 shots and forcing 36 saves. David Serra made nine stops and Alex Elliott made 27. The Cougars surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Schomberg averages 2.0 goals per contest. The Cougars got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Schomberg could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 78 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Cougars were helped by Connor Whiteside, who had one goal. Whiteside scored 4:43 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Schomberg. Bobby Quinn picked up the assist. Schomberg also got points from Ian Reid, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Schomberg included Brandon Yorke, who had two and JP Crescenzi and John Gage, who each put in one. More assists for Schomberg came via Tristan Joseph and Blake Culley, who contributed one each and Francesco Corona and Kiefer McIntosh, who each chipped in two.

Fergus was often in penalty trouble, totaling 14 minors and one major for 63 minutes in penalty time. The Devils surpassed its season average of 36.0 penalty minutes per game. Fergus kept Schomberg's goalie busy throughout the game, and Luke Gamoyda made 34 saves on 37 shots. Team could not crack the Cougars' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 19 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

The Devils were led by Paolo Chemello, who registered one goal and one assist. Chemello scored 15 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fergus. Jack Vautour assisted on the tally. Fergus additionally got points from Mike Traves, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Fergus also got a goal from Brock Philips as well. In addition, Fergus received assists from Mikael Ruffini, who had one.

Schomberg registered three goals on 11 power play opportunities. The Cougars ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Quinn was ejected from the game. For Fergus, Joshua Schafer was ejected from the game.
