Orillia penalty kill dominates in 5-2 defeat of Huntsville

The Orillia Terriers' penalty kill was superb, as Orillia survived multiple penalties to beat the Huntsville Otters, 5-2.

The Terriers were led by Denny Benson, who had one goal. Benson scored on the power play 29 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-2 Orillia. Matt Clifford picked up the assist.

Orillia forced Huntsville goalie Hunter Ferguson to work between the pipes, taking 50 shots. The Terriers' penalty kill managed to stymie the Otters' power play, giving up only one goal while playing with a man down. Orillia's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Terriers finished with 36 penalty minutes.

Orillia additionally got points from Ryan Tucci, who also registered one goal and one assist and Jacob Beard, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Orillia included Mathew White and Andrew Denne, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Orillia were Wyatt Young, Nathan Beers, Jackson Gunner, and Jason Stone, who contributed one each.

Huntsville was held below its usual level of production. The Otters average 4.1 goals per game. Huntsville's offense rang up 42 shots on Orillia's net.

The Otters were helped by Jake McIntyre, who tallied one goal. McIntyre scored 2:16 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville. Jamie Halnan assisted on the tally. Huntsville also got a goal from Josh Zantingh as well. More assists for Huntsville came via Jesse Houlton and Riley Vogels, who each chipped in one.

The Terriers' Gordie Weiss stopped 40 shots out of the 42 that he faced. Orillia registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Ferguson rejected 45 shots on goal for Huntsville. The Otters incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
