Huntsville's Halnan deadly on offense in 7-2 win against Midland

The Huntsville Otters relied on the scoring touch of Jamie Halnan, who netted two goals, to beat the Midland Flyers, 7-2.

Halnan found the back of the net 8:54 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Huntsville and again while on the power play 2:58 into the second to make the score 3-2 Huntsville.

Huntsville's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Midland power plays. The Otters kept Midland's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jake Norton made 36 saves on 43 shots. Huntsville's goal total was higher than its season average. The Otters have scored at the pace of 4.1 goals per game during the current campaign.

Huntsville also got points from Jake McIntyre, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Huntsville included Nathan Zantingh, who had two and Evan Lade and Walker Davison, who scored one goal each. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Elliott Lade, Jay Dix, Chris Goodfellow, Corey Miller, and Brendan Fitter, who each chipped in one and Jesse Houlton, Josh Zantingh, and Tyler Brown, who contributed two each.

The Flyers forced Huntsville goalie Connor Christianson to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Midland was led by Cam Russell, who racked up two goals. Russell scored the first of his two goals at 1:15 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Evan Buehler provided the assist. Russell's next tally made the score 3-3 with 1:55 left in the second period. Bobby Logan assisted on the tally. Midland also got a goal from Will Craig as well.

Christianson recorded 30 saves for the Otters. Huntsville incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Flyers ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. Midland ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Russell was ejected from the game.
