Grimsby outlasts Simcoe, 5-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Grimsby Peach Kings escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Simcoe Storm.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Andrew McMurtrie at 3:10 of the third period.

Grimsby was paced by McMurtrie, who had one goal.

The Peach Kings forced Simcoe goalie Nathen McKinnon to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

Grimsby also got points from Joshua Kozielski, who also registered one goal and one assist and Curtis Conrad, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Grimsby also had goals scored by Matthew Jambrosich and Griffin Roubos, who each put in one. More assists for Grimsby came via Nick Carniello, who had two and Trevor McEneny, Dillon Cipretti, Jeromy Hopkins, and Garnet McComber, who contributed one each.

The Storm were helped by Sam McPherson, who finished with one goal. McPherson scored 13:57 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Riley Wilson picked up the assist. Others who scored for Simcoe included Tyler Nagy and Corson Searles, who scored one goal each. In addition, Simcoe received assists from Austin Sloot, Bryce Cadwell, and Drake Bailey, who each chipped in one.

Grimsby's Jeremy Currie stopped 24 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Peach Kings incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Grimsby ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Carniello was ejected from the game. Nathen McKinnon made 34 saves for Simcoe on 38 shots. The Storm incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
