Port Dover uses shootout to best Grimsby, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Port Dover Sailors defeated the Grimsby Peach Kings in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured five attempts between both teams.

Port Dover overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Sailors was down 3-1 after a goal by Grimsby's Matthew Jambrosich at 2:27 in the third period. Port Dover tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Braden Roberts at 14:07 in the third period.

The Sailors' offense rang up 39 shots on the Peach Kings' net.

Others who scored for Port Dover included Travis Walker and Eric Mueller, who each put in one. In addition, Port Dover received assists from Jacob Miller and Tyson Myke, who each chipped in one.

Grimsby managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Peach Kings ended up below its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. Grimsby forced Port Dover goalie Mike Caluori to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots.

Grimsby additionally got points from Garnet McComber, who also registered one goal and one assist. Christian Gaetano also scored for Grimsby. Other players who recorded assists for Grimsby were Brennan Smith, who had two and Jeromy Hopkins, Andrew McMurtrie, and Curtis Jacques, who contributed one each.

Caluori recorded 46 saves for the Sailors. Port Dover incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Jeremy Currie made 35 saves for the Peach Kings on 38 shots. Grimsby registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
