Dunnville blows out Hagersville, 5-2

The Dunnville Jr. Mudcats had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-2 win over the Hagersville Hawks.

Luke Rowe had two goals to lead Dunnville to victory. Rowe scored at 8:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Dunnville and again while on the power play 5:51 into the second to make the score 3-0 Dunnville.

The Jr. Mudcats forced Hagersville's goalies to work in net, firing 36 shots and forcing 31 saves. Curtis Dortenzio made 27 stops and Tyler Clause made four. Dunnville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Hawks to score on any of their three power plays.

Dunnville additionally got points from Chad Springer, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Dunnville included Steven Czepek and Josh Phibbs, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Dunnville were Mark Topp, Josh Meeuwse, Davis Hart, Brandon Dear, Travis Sheldrake, and Dan Arrowsmith, who contributed one each.

Hagersville kept the Jr. Mudcats' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brennan Head made 37 saves on 39 shots.

The Hawks were helped by Matt Rimac, who racked up one goal. Rimac scored 9:10 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Dunnville. Dan Mederios assisted on the tally. Hagersville also got a goal from Kyle Phibbs as well. More assists for Hagersville came via Jacob Brown, who had one.

Dunnville incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Hagersville incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the Hawks, Aaron Panter and Derek Friesen were ejected from the contest.
