Perth Thunder rides Dugas to victory over Newcastle North Stars, 4-1Perth Ice Arena Sun, Jul 06, 2014 A stellar performance between the pipes by Mathieu Dugas helped Perth Thunder defeat Newcastle North Stars, 4-1. Perth Thunder was led by Stuart Stefan, who registered one goal and one assist. Stefan scored 59 seconds into the third period to make the score 2-1 Perth Thunder. Corey Toy assisted on the tally. Perth Thunder put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Newcastle North Stars to score on any of its three power plays. By firing 40 shots on goal, Perth Thunder exceeded the 3.0 shots it averages per game this year. Perth Thunder additionally got points from Sam Wilson, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Andrew Cox, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Jonathan Bremner also scored for Perth Thunder. In addition, Perth Thunder received assists from Robert Haselhurst and Jordan Kyros, who contributed one each. Newcastle North Stars kept Perth Thunder's goalie busy throughout the game, and Dugas made 31 saves on 32 shots. Newcastle North Stars was led by Matt Wetini, who scored the team's only goal. Wetini scored 7:49 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Cody Danberg provided the assist. Perth Thunder totaled 31 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Perth Thunder ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Justin Fox was ejected from the game. Harrison May recorded 36 saves for Newcastle North Stars.
